Clay Buchholz placed on 15 day DL

According to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, Clay Buchholz has been placed on the 15 day DL. He was scheduled to start today but was scratched due to illness.

Buchholz is 8-2 this year with a 5.53 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. He had a 2.40 ERA in June and was starting to look like the Buchholz of old before being placed on the DL.

Aaron Cook is scheduled to start in his place today and will take his roster spot. Cook hasn’t started a game for the Red Sox since he got spiked at home plate against the Orioles. He allowed 6 runs on 8 hits and a walk in 2.2 innings.

Apparently Buchholz had a gastro-intestinal issue, and needs more time to recover.
