According to WEEI, the Red Sox have put lefty reliever Rich Hill on the DL with a left forearm injury and recalled reliever Mark Melancon from AAA Pawtucket today. Hill is expected to see Dr. James Andrews, which is always a bad sign for any sports player.

Mark Melancon was part of the deal that sent Jed Lowrie and Kyle Weiland to Houston, and obviously that deal isn’t looking to good right now for the Red Sox. Melancon had an ERA of 49.50 before being sent down to AAA, though he has been excellent for the PawSox, posting a 0.83 ERA in 21 innings of work as the PawSox closer. He struck out 27 batters while only walking 3 batters during his time in Pawtucket.

Rich Hill had an ERA of 2.63 and a WHIP of 1.39 in 13.2 innings of work for the Red Sox. It is still unclear how severe his injury is, but if he’s meeting with Dr. James Andrews, that doesn’t bode well for him.
