Kevin Youkilis to begin rehab assignment Wednesday

According to WEEI, Kevin Youkilis will begin his rehab assignment tomorrow with the Pawtucket Red Sox. Youkilis has been out since April 28th with a strained back.

He will take 3 at bats for the PawSox tomorrow at the DH spot. According to Bobby Valentine, “We’re going to try to get him at least three at-bats as a DH. He looked really good taking his ground balls today, moving around, bounce in his step. So he’ll start tomorrow and get him enough, whatever it’s going to take to have him to say that he feels good. He’ll go from DH to playing the field.”

It is still unclear on what the Red Sox plan on doing with hot hitting Will Middlebrooks. Oftentimes problems like this work themselves out, but Middlebrooks has been a big spark in the Red Sox lineup so far and it would be hard to take him out of it now (although he’s had a few miscues with his defense). It’ll be an interesting decision, that’s for sure. Bobby V has been mum on the issue so far, just saying that they haven’t made a decision yet.
