Big news today. It is very likely the Red Sox will acquire Eric Bedard from the Mariners for Tim Federowicz. All of the major sports writers are confirming it and it looks legit to me. Bedard is 4-7 on the season with a 3.45 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. Opponents are hitting .226 against him. 2.16 ERA on the road which is a great sign. If he can stay healthy this will be a stellar move for the Red Sox.
Tim Federowicz is the catcher for the Portland Sea Dogs. He is hitting .275 with a .337 OBP and a .397 slugging percentage. He is far from a top prospect, pretty worthless thanks to Salty and Lavarnway.
It is rumored it will be a 3 team trade including the Dodgers. It is also rumored the Red Sox will get Josh Fields.
Update 4:28: Gordon Edes: Bos gets Bedard, trade Federowicz, Lin, Fife and Rodriguez. Dodgers get Federowicz, Rodrigiuez and Fife. M’s get Lin, Trayvon Robinson
Update 4:30: New news, Red Sox got Robinson according to Peter Abraham.
Update 4:40: Rob Bradford: For clarification: Bedard and Fields to
- Red Sox get: starter Erik Bedard, reliever Josh Fields (both from Mariners)
- Dodgers get: catcher Tim Federowicz, reliever Juan Rodriguez, starter Stephen Fife (all from Red Sox)
- Mariners get: outfielder Trayvon Robinson (from Dodgers), outfielder Chih-Hsien Chiang (from Red Sox)
