The Red Sox  won the final game of a 3 game set against Chicago to take the series 2-1. Andrew Miller was unspectacular yet effective, allowing a handful of bloop hits in a 5.2 IP, 10 H, 3 ER effort. Alfredo Aceves came in to pitch an inning of relief and recieved the W to improve his record to 7-1.

Pedroia went 2-4 and drove in 2 runs in the 7th to give the Red Sox the lead for good. Adrian Gonzalez went 2-4 and is 23 for his last 43. He has had multiple hits in each of the past 7 games.

Daniel Bard pitched 1.1 innings to extend his current streak to 26.1 IP without allowing a run.

Today’s win gave the Red Sox their 20th win of the month, setting a franchise record for the month of July. The last time the Red Sox won 20 games in a month was in May, 2007.

Alfredo Aceves records 7th win of season.

Eric Bedard

Big news today. It is very likely the Red Sox will acquire Eric Bedard from the Mariners for Tim Federowicz. All of the major sports writers are confirming it and it looks legit to me. Bedard is 4-7 on  the season with a 3.45 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. Opponents are hitting .226 against him. 2.16 ERA on the road which is a great sign. If he can stay healthy this will be a stellar move for the Red Sox.

Tim Federowicz is the catcher for the Portland Sea Dogs. He is hitting .275 with a .337 OBP and a .397 slugging percentage. He is far from a top prospect, pretty worthless thanks to Salty and Lavarnway.

It is rumored it will be a 3 team trade including the Dodgers. It is also rumored the Red Sox will get Josh Fields.

Update 4:28: Gordon Edes: Bos gets Bedard, trade Federowicz, Lin, Fife and Rodriguez. Dodgers get Federowicz, Rodrigiuez and Fife. M’s get Lin, Trayvon Robinson

Update 4:30: New news, Red Sox got Robinson according to Peter Abraham.

Update 4:40: Rob Bradford: For clarification: Bedard and Fields to

#RedSox; Trayvon Robinson and Chiang to #Mariners; Federowicz, Fife and Juan Rodriguez to #Dodgers
Update 4:44: Via MLB Trade Rumors

It looks as if the Red Sox aren’t getting Rich Harden. They might get him later, but as of now Harden is still an A. Billy Beane told Harden the news that he’ll be pitching on Tuesday.

“I’m here and staying here. I’m happy to be part of this organization. I’m looking forward to starting Tuesday” Harden told reporters last night.

The trade was called up because of Harden’s medical history. According to an MLB source after seeing Harden’s medical records the Red Sox pulled the plug with the assumption that Harden wouldn’t be able to get through the season. This opens up the door for many other trades for the Red Sox. To say the least this will be a busy day for Theo Epstein.

With trade rumors dominating all the headlines, the Boston Red Sox quietly went about their business in routing Chicago.

On the same day that the Red Sox acquired Mike Aviles from the Royals and Rich Harden from Oakland, Lester pitched a gem. He took a shutout into the seventh inning and finished with a strong line of 8 IP, 4 H, 2 ER and 8 SO. Both earned runs were allowed on solo homeruns to Paul Konerko and Gordon Beckham respectively.

Offensively, the Red Sox had no problem touching up Chicago starter Phil Humber. They truly exploded against Brian Bruney, who allowed 6 runs in 1.2 innings. Both Gonzalez and Youkilis hit homeruns, and Crawford, Ellsbury and Scutaro each swiped a bag.

A day his hit streak ended, Pedroia got right back on the wagon as he had 2 hits and an RBI.

Newly acquired Mike Aviles arrived in the 3rd inning and could be spotted talking to Darnell McDonald in the dugout during the game.

Rich HardenDeal for Rich Harden looks to be about done right now.  As of right now it looks as if the trade will be Lars Anderson and a PTBNL for Rich Harden. No word on who the PTBNL is, though it is likely to be a player from the 2010 Red Sox draft. Too bad Coco Crisp isn’t part of the trade, as far as we know.

If Harden can stay healthy, this is a great move for the Red Sox. Obviously Lars is blocked by AGon so it’s a great trade. Stay tuned for more info…

Ubaldo Jimenez

Deal is not official yet, but muiltiple sources confirm the trade is finalized. Troy Renck of the Denver Post says its done, MLB Trade Rumors confirms too. The deal will likely include Pomeranz, White, and McBride.

For that cost I’m glad the Red Sox stayed away. It looks like now the Red Sox will look for reasonable options like Rich Harden.

Update 8:21: Ubaldo Jimenez is in the bullpen for the Rockies, so it looks as if the trade is not done. Stay tuned…

Update 8:32: Lars Anderson pinch hit for in the 7th. More interesting developments.

Update 9:25: Sources say Red Sox close to trade for Rich Harden. No word if Crisp will be included.

Update 10:00: Jimenez trade done to the Indians. Glad that’s over.

Mike Aviles

Ugh. According to the Royals the Red Sox have traded Yamaico Navarro and Kendal Volz to the Royals for 2nd baseman Mike Aviles. Aviles is hitting .309/.344/.600 in 55 at-bats against lefthanders this season.

Very um, interesting trade Theo. We need starting pitching and you go out and get a utility player/2nd basemen, when Sutton and Navarro do a solid job already filling that role. Unless this trade helps the Sox make another move, it’s a bad one. It is possible this trade could make losing Lowrie in a possible trade for Jimenez hurt less. Lowrie can play many positions as well and the acquisition of Aviles makes Lowrie more expendable.
